How to protect your property from bad weather?

Bad weather in Belgium is common, but sometimes it escalates into real storms and hurricanes. Some areas have already been hit several times by these extreme conditions, and this can naturally lead to a feeling of helplessness.

How can you prepare for bad weather? What can you do to minimize the damage?

Here are some tips to help you avoid many unpleasant surprises.

Bad weather isn’t scary – just be prepared!

  • Close doors, windows, and skylights.
  • Store your belongings in a safe place – especially cars, garden furniture, trampolines, umbrellas, and flower pots.
  • Secure any items that might be blown away by the wind, such as garbage bins and outdoor furniture.
  • Raise the contents of basements and underground garages as high as possible in case of flooding.
  • Disconnect electrical appliances (computers, televisions, and others) to prevent damage from power surges.
  • Stay indoors and ensure the safety of your loved ones and pets.

Safety is simple!

Please limit your movements during bad weather. If you must go outside, be careful and adjust your speed according to visibility and road conditions.

Post-storm check – peace of mind in every home!

  • Check your property for damage, but only after the weather improves.
  • Inspect the roof to ensure that all tiles are in place.

Affected by bad weather? We’re here to help!

  • In case of injuries or danger to people, call 112.
  • To call the fire department (if no one’s life is at risk), dial 1722 (when this number is activated by the authorities).
  • If your home or its contents are damaged, take urgent measures to prevent further damage. Contact your insurance company’s support service.
  • Take photos of the damage immediately after the incident and before any rescue, cleaning, or repair efforts.
  • Provide a detailed list of damaged items, photos, supporting documents (purchase receipts, warranties), and repair estimates.
  • Keep damaged items until the expert has visited or you’ve received approval from your insurance company.

Prevention is the key to peace of mind!

  • Regularly clean gutters, cornices, and downspouts to ensure proper drainage of rainwater.
  • Make sure your roof is in good condition and all tiles are intact.
  • In the garden, prune dead branches and check the stability of your fence.
  • Ensure all outdoor structures can withstand strong winds, especially canopies, garden sheds, fence panels, and satellite dishes.

We are always here and ready to help you in difficult times.
